Yesterday I went to watch Cinderella at La Monnaie, in Brussels. It was beautiful, and probably the funniest, quirkiest opera I've ever seen. It also got me straight into my christmas mood, Merry Christmas!

Lost and Found >> Estació de França

Holaaa!

Hi!! This is going to be a quick post, just to show you these pictures that the lovely Marie-Paola took last Sunday at Lost and Found, a flea market that takes place every once in a while at the train station Estació de França in Barcelona. There people sell all kinds of stuff, furniture, guitars... but what's most important for me: vintage and second hand clothes!! :)
I got lucky and found a treasure (and I'm not a very skillful vintage shopper),  a suit from the 90s by jigsaw! For just 15 euros! And the owner of the suit sold it to me, she told me she hoped I enjoyed it now as much as she had! Once I take it to the dry cleaner's I'll post an outfit picture wearing it!
Enough with the  exclamation marks now... but you can see how excited I am. :)

Back to square one >> Barceloneta

"¡Aha! ¡Ahora lo pillo!"

Yep, all my previous excitement about the possibility of being able to put myself out there and meet a sunday-hand-holding boyfriend has vanished to thin air. Poufff!
"And why?" You may wonder.
"Well I went to the theatre yesterday."
"How can that be a reason for celibacy?"
-does it annoy you that I write down our imaginary dialogues ? If it does, I'll stop, just tell me ;) -
"Well I saw Who is afraid of Virginia Woolf?"
"Aha, NOW I get it"

¿Cómo llegaron George y Martha a odiarse tanto?

Two days ago I was happy as I could be, thinking that there was a chance that two people could meet and get on and be kind to one another. Yesterday I walked out of the theatre feeling completely shaken up. How could George and Martha hate each other so much? How did they build that sick dependent relationship? How could they enjoy hurting each other? And the young couple, behind their newly-wed's happiness they hide even darker secrets than the other couple. I keep remembering past experiences, or identifying behaviours I've seen in other couples and I can't help finding similarities. If we are all bound to end up like them, what's the point of even trying?
So for the moment, I think I'd rather stay the way I am. And if you're not as easily affected as me, I recommend this play or the film adaptation with Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton.
Hmmm, maybe watching a love movie will do me good, do you have any suggestions?

Double Houndstooth >> Port Vell

I still can't believe it... not a single mail in my inbox asking me out on a date. Can you believe it? Well actually there was one, from my ex, who must have thought: "nobody is going to ask her out, poor soul, I'll just drop a line saying hi." Anyways, thanks man :)

I couldn't just stay home admitting defeat, so I decided it was time for some action. Or at least some double houndstooth action. Did I just create a new trend? First came the double denim, then the double or even triple polka dot mixing with Marc Jacobs this fall, and finally comes Maiú's double houndstooth. What do you think?

Hmmm I know, this combination has probably been done before, but it still was something new and fun for me! I suppose that you fashion experts have seen this mix somewhere. If you have, feel free to point out what an ignorant I am in everything fashion related. Or related to any other aspect of life while you're at it. I won't get upset, but just remember that NO ONE sent me an e-mail to ask me out this weekend...
So actually pleeease, don't be too harsh, or you might make me cry! ;)

Oh how I love the weekends, one has time to go for long walks, holding hands with your man, stealing secret kisses every now and then, feeling a special connection, you know, asking yourself: is this looove? Is this finally it?
Gotcha!Still single!
So for the moment I'm still walking around Barcelona alone (poor me). However, if there's any man interested in coming to the Antiguo Café with me for coffee ... amaia.bcn@hotmail.com Feel free to e-mail me and ¡ask me out!

¡A! ¿No? :(

Oh!I wanted to introduce you to denial the second, aka another excessively expensive piece of material that I cannot really afford. But isn't it a beautiful skirt? And I did get both pieces with a 30% discount. That's a good excuse, right? Right? :(
But why not?
Well I have to go now, and start getting ready for my possible date, it's still Sunday, so I might manage to go on a hand-holding date this very weekend!!!
And you might ask: "Do you really believe that someone will e-mail you to ask you on a date?"
Hmmm I don't know, maybe not. I'm just hoping that if someone does, he won't be a serial killer ...

Denial

¡Hola!

Hi! Do you like my new dress? It's called denial. It's my new Sandro dress and it's got this name because I bought it in what seems to be an attempt at denying the obvious, I'll explain. Since I moved back to Barcelona I have been all over the place, meeting new people, happy with my new job, partying every weekend... Everything has been perfect, but (and I always find a but, I should probably stop doing that...) there is a tiny problem , my job isn't that perfect, the change from my previous job to this one has been a kind of economical suicide, yes, I suppose I could call it that way.

Look at this last picture, don't I look like I'm thinking: "So I might have to eat white label spaghetti for the rest of my life but I'll be looking nice in my Sandro dress!"
So let me tell you a story. My father, who is a very wise person, gave me a few economy-related tips before I moved to Barcelona. I will share two with you.
"Amaia, you have lots of clothes, why don't you wear them and stop buying new stuff?" Very good advice, don't you think?
"There are many activities you can do in your free time that won't cost you a cent, like going for a walk, reading a book..." Also a really good tip.
So what do you think I did with this great advice? Well I ignored it completely. Since I moved to Barcelona I joined a literature course, started pilates, I can't even remember how many times I've been shopping, I go out for dinner more that I should... What a disaster!
But I look so nice in my denial dress, don't I? ;)

I think I should have loved you presently

I think I should have loved you presently,
And given in earnest words I flung in jest;
And lifted honest eyes for you to see,
And caught your hand against my cheek and breast;
And all my pretty follies flung aside
That won you to me, beneath your gaze,
Naked of reticence and shorn of pride,
Spread like a chart my little wicked ways.
I, that had been to you, had you remained,
But one more waking from a recurrent dream,
Cherish no less the certain stakes I gained,
And walk your memory halls, austere, supreme,
A ghost in marble of a girl you knew
Who would have loved you in a day or two.
